Observing Gym Etiquette

Fitness centers offer many things to their members. They have a variety of equipment for all kinds of needs. This includes items in the cardio area as well as weight training. They are often well taken care of by an attentive staff. Despite this, some members fail to show good manners.

Sweat is a natural occurrence when you workout. You do not want to run into someone else's sweat dripping off a machine. The equipment is used all day by many people and the chances are this is going to happen. This is very unpleasant.

Etiquette demands that you have a towel with you to wipe off the equipment once you have used it. People need to think of those who follow them. Pay attention to the areas you know you perspired on and wipe them down.

Pick up after yourself. This is a special concern in a free weight area. Too many times I have found equipment left out and not put back.

Do not put the burden on the gym staff to keep up with the mess. Do your part and clean up.

At every gym there is a rush hour. This is usually in the early evening after most people get off of work. This is when everyone wants a cardio machine. Be conscientious enough to not use the machine for over thirty minutes before handing off to the next person if there is a line. If you are there at peak time there will be a line.

One of the nicest ways gym members can help each other is taking turns on the weight machines. Weight lifters usually do sets with rests. You simply have the other person do their set while you rest. It is also a good way to meet other members of the gym.

Every member can be part of improving the atmosphere at the facility. Not everyone will but it is important that you do. You might just influence someone by your good example.
